How We Do Family: Fertility Realities for the Transgender Community
with Trystan Reese (he/him)
This session is for anyone who wants to learn the basics of transgender fertility, including what to do before transitioning, how hormones impact fertility, what options trans youth have, and more!
About our Presenter:
Trystan Reese is an award-winning author, facilitator, and researcher focusing on diversity, equity, and inclusion. He has been organizing with the trans community for nearly two decades, serving on the frontlines of this generation’s most significant fights for LGBTQ+ justice. He burst into the American media landscape in 2017, when he and his partner decided to tell their trans pregnancy story publicly. He has since toured with The Moth MainStage, and his story was subsequently included in The Moth’s 2024 anthology, A Point Of Beauty.
As an author, Trystan's first book, How We Do Family, was released in the summer of 2021. He branched out with a children’s book, The Light of You, and his essays have been featured in many anthologies, including The Mindful Masculinity Workbook. Trystan is a published researcher who is passionate about transgender fertility and co-authored a chapter on the mental health needs of transgender patients undergoing Assisted Reproductive Technology, which can be found in Cambridge University Press’ Fertility Counseling: Clinical Guide.
The founder of Collaborate Consulting, Trystan provides customized training solutions for individuals, organizations, and communities interested in social justice. He has trained hundreds of medical providers on transgender fertility inclusion and delivered keynotes at dozens of conferences and convenings.
He lives in Portland, Oregon, with his three kids: Riley, Sully, and Leo. They are very happy.

A NOTE ABOUT VIRTUAL MEETINGS:
We will be utilizing Zoom features that provide the highest level of safety and confidentiality possible. Zoom is free to you and you need not have an account to join us. If you are new to Zoom, you can follow the links [here] for brief tutorials on all you need to know to sign on to a Zoom meeting with us. We ask that each of you that would like to participate in the on-line support, contact us in advance by email at rsvp@pflagmanhattanbeach.org to RSVP for the meeting. We will cut off RSVPs at 5 p.m. on the day of the meeting. All participants will receive a follow-up email with the link to the Zoom call and a password. For confidentiality’s sake, please do not forward these to another participant — they are welcome to contact us directly to receive the link.
We recognize that youth may be interested in the educational part of this meeting and they are welcome to join us. As usual, we ask that youth who may want to stick around for our support groups be joined by a parent. Some heavy emotions can emerge in the course of our sessions and having a parent on-hand helps to ensure that the needs of any youth on the call are met.
If you need more personalized assistance and support, we remain here for you. Email us confidentially at info@pflagmanhattanbeach.org and we will work with you to identify the best member of our team to assist with your individual needs.
